Preh MCI Touch Driver Disk ReadMe.txt (c) 2005 Preh-Keytec, Inc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OPERATING SYSTEMS FULLY SUPPORTED Includes driver, control panel and calibration software. Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) Windows ME Windows 2000 Windows XP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OPERATING SYSTEMS PARTIALLY SUPPORTED Includes driver software only DOS RedHat Linux version 8 and 9 OPERATING SYSTEMS NOT SUPPORTED No software or driver support Windows 3.x Windows 95 (Any version) Windows NT 3.x Windows NT 4.x Windows 98 (First edition) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION WINDOWS Before installing the USB device on Windows, you want to make sure that the touchscreen USB cable is not plugged into your computer. Plugging the cable in before you run the install disk may result in a partial driver install. The touchscreen may work, but there will be no sound, no settings control panel and no calibration program. To start the install on Windows, find and double click the "Setup.exe" program in the root of the CDROM drive. For example, if your CDROM is on Drive D, the install program would be "D:\Setup.exe". If your computer is set up to hide file extensions, the program will just be "D:\Setup" After the install program has completed. Reboot the computer, then plug in your USB touchscreen. Windows will then detect the touchscreen controller and optionally the Magstripe Reader and Customer Display and a USB hub. Windows should automatically find the drivers for these devices and install them when you click "Next" on the "Found new hardware" popup dialogs. If Windows does not automatically find the drivers for a device for some reason, click "Back" and browse to the following locations to manually install the driver off the CDROM or the Preh program files folder: After install, the touchscreen driver is located in C:\Program Files\Preh MCI Touch\Drivers\Touchscreen The card reader does not need a driver becuase it presents itself to windows as a keyboard device. However, if you wish to configure the data stream sent by the card reader, you can install the card reader config program from \Windows\Files\Drivers\CardReader\ConfigApp Customer Display driver is located in \Windows\Files\Drivers\CustomerDisplay DOS For instructions on how to use the DOS driver, see the file \DOS\Drivers\ReadMe.txt LINUX For instructions on how to install the Linux drivers, see the /Linux/Drivers//ReadMeSerial and ReadMe_USB files ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWN ISSUES Windows 98 SE will often not find the drivers for the touchscreen even though they have been properly installed. The touchscreen controller will show up as an "Unknown Device" with the name of "UTC1000" in the device manager. You can "Reinstall" the drivers from the properties of the unknown device and the drivers will be found automatically. This disk does not contain an SDK for developing custom software to use the touchscreen directly. An SDK is being worked on at this moment and will be made available on the website when completed. This disk does not contain the source code to the Linux driver. The source is available upon request. Send email to techsupport@Preh-Keytec.com to request source code. The touchscreen driver does not work properly on Windows 98 first edition at this time so Preh does not support its use on that OS. Currently, multiple monitors are only supported on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Windows ME and 98 SE will be added in a future release. In multi-monitor setups on Windows, you may notice that the mouse cursor does not reach the far right column of pixels or the bottom most row of pixels. This is due to an inconsistency in the information returned from the Windows API depending on the relative positioning of the multiple monitors. We purposely limited the mouse movement on the right and bottom edges of the screens to prevent he mouse from ever appearing on the wrong monitor due to this inconsistent information. We will be fixing this issue if possible in a future release. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DOCUMENTATION Further documentation can be found in the DOS, LINUX and Windows/Docs folders. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATES Always check back to the Preh web site www.Preh-us.com for driver updates, new SDK code and new or updated utilities.
